Schedule a FREE Credit Counseling Workshop for Your Members
Union Plus Workshops are a great way to bring the power of Union Plus benefits home to union members. They communicate that the union cares about its members, and they can help members take the first step toward meeting their individual needs.
Following are agendas for some typical workshops. Union Plus Program Presenters can modify presentations to fit local circumstances.
Credit Counseling Workshops (Money Management International)
A workbook and handouts are provided.
- Understanding Money & Credit. Information and tools to assist in money and credit management. Encourages wise use of credit and creation of a savings plan. Through careful planning and use of money management skills and techniques, you can feel more confident about your ability to live within your means, handle emergencies, reduce debt and save for the future. Workbook included.
- Understanding Your Credit Report. Learn how to obtain, read, understand and dispute inaccurate information on your credit report. Discover how your credit score can affect more than your ability to establish or re-establish credit. Workbook included.
- Surviving a Layoff. Learn how to cope with one of the most stressful events in your life by being financially prepared. This program will review how to set priorities, identify problem areas and establish a practical spending and savings plan.

- 5-hour training seminar for Certified Money Management Volunteers. Training is also available in person or through self-paced online (WebEx) seminars. This training program will prepare you to present CMMV money management programs in your community. The program will teach participants Understanding Money and Credit and Understanding Your Credit Report.
- Volunteers are trained to teach others the importance of sound financial planning and wise credit use, as well as offer assistance during layoffs and strikes.

How to Plan a Workshop
Contact the Union Plus Program Representative (see phone number and email listed above) who will help you plan the workshop to make sure it runs smoothly. Once all your questions are answered, the Program Representative will help arrange for you to speak with the Union Plus Program Presenter for final arrangements.
The Union is responsible for making the arrangements.
- Location, time (flexible, but generally 90 minutes to 2 1/2 hours), sufficient seating, screen and projector, parking, refreshments. When and where the workshop is offered can make a big difference in attendance.
- Union Plus Program materials are available.
Decide who you want to invite and how you want to promote the workshop.
- Workshops of 100 or more are ideal. The minimum requirement is 25 members.
- Decide how best to reach members. Make sure you have sufficient lead time so members learn about the workshop at least 2 weeks prior to the event.
- Sometimes the best way to arrange a workshop is to piggy-back on another union meeting or event.
- Encourage family members to attend.
- Workshop invitations should require members to sign up in advance. Generally, if fewer than 100 sign up, attendance will not be sufficient.
- Are there members you want to invite who are more comfortable in Spanish? Your presenter can work with you to make sure their needs are met.
